Back during the 90's several female rappers made a name for themselves in the hip hop game. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Monie Love and Roxanne Chante were just a few who were putting it down.
This year during the BET 2013 Hip Hop Awards female emcee MC Lyte will be the honoree for the "I Am Hip Hop Award". Lyte is known for the hits "Ruff neck", "Cha Cha Cha" and "Lyte as a Rock". She is also featured on singer Brandy's single "I Wanna Be Down" remix with Queen Latifah.
Lyte has done some great things throughout her career for her people and her community. She is the founder of Hip Hop Sisters Foundation and the president of Sunni Gyrl Inc. She also assisted in the I LEAD youth program in South Africa.
Stay tuned for MC Lyte and other special guests at the BET 2013 Hip Hop Awards hosted by Snoop Lion on October 15th.
