In the movie "The Color Purple" Suge was played by Margaret Avery and Elisabeth Withers-Mendes played her in the original Broadway production.
The new production will be in London where it ran at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2013. Director John Doyle, whose productions of Sweeney Todd and Company had actors playing instruments, made cuts to The Color Purple for the London production, making it more intimate, according to Eurweb.com.
A close source says that the production is exploring bringing Cynthia Erivo, who won critical praise playing Celie in London, to reprise her role.
In 2007 Fantasia played the role of Celie in the "The Color Purple" Broadway!
