The duo Jyroscope, comprised of I.B. Fokus and Collasoul Structure, combine forces to union a marriage of two subgenres to knitted perfection: progressive hip-hop and ragtime. “Let Me Down” is genius for a soundbed reflected on higher musical aspirations of a new-fashioned generation of African American musicians (emcees) that broaden horizons for Black music. Combining syncopated melodic lines, cymbal strokes in march rhythm, and traces of blues and jazz with mutilating rhymes that fight the powers of anarchy and hostility become treacherous. Jyroscope, a group that modernly sound like The Pharcyde and Souls of Mischief ascend hip-hop to rare form.
