Previously, LeRoy McCarthy of Brooklyn, New York started a petition in a quest to change the name of a street corner to the late Notorious Big aka Christopher Wallace.
According to DNAinfo reports, McCarthy wanted to change the corner of St. James Place and Fullerton Street to Christopher Wallace Way. She wanted to change it because it was a reminder of where Biggie grew up. McCarthy gathered over 3,500 signatures for the petition.
In response to the Brooklyn resident's petition the community board rejected the proposal saying the now deceased rapper has a history of dealing drugs and he died violently. It was also said that he wasn't in physical shape to be a role model.
Lucy Koteen a committee member brought up Biggie's criminal record saying he sold drugs at 12, dropped out of school at 17, he was arrested for drug and weapon charges and arrested on parole violations.
"In 1996 he was again arrested for assault, he had a violent death and physically the man's not exactly a role model for youth," Koteen explained.
"I don't see how this guy was a role model and frankly it offends me," she added.
Another representative from the board named Kenn Lowry said he didn't appreciate Biggie's use of misogynistic and derogatory lyrics towards women.
Other members weighed in on the matter as well but no official agreement has been made.
Updated reports stated the proposal is currently on hold. According to councilwoman James she is going to defer the community board and wait for recommendation.
