Recently, rapper Nelly released his dropped his seventh studio album "M.O." this September. The album features artists like 2 Chainz, Future and female rapper Nicki Minaj.
Nelly recently appeared on "Chelsea Lately" where he talked about his views on women in hip hop. He said female rappers face significant challenges.
"It is definitely harder for females in this business. It shouldn't be, but it is. They have just as much talent, just as much creative ability as anybody else to make great music. So I don't know why it's like that," Nelly explained.
During the 90's and early 2000's female rappers were more acknowledgable back when MC Lyte, Monie Love, Lady of Rage, Missy Elliott, Lil Kim and Salt N Pepa were on the scene. Today's female rappers can't compete with the gangster rappers which is why it's hard for them to be successful in the hip hop game.
Rap lyrics today are mostly about partying, violence, drugs, sex and living lavishly. But most people who listen to rap are those who can relate to the rappers themselves!
Nicki Minaj is the only female rapper in the game who gets recognition but how long will that last?
